Kith Unveils the Onitsuka Tiger GSM In a Wealth of Subtle New Colorways

Onitsuka Tiger has been a mainstay in running technology for decades now, and while the Japanese brand is largely known for it, they still have some exciting stuff in their archives, like the tennis-ready GSM just revived by Kith in new colorways.

When you mention the name Onitsuka Tiger to your average sneakerhead, they might think they are well-informed on the brand’s history, likely referencing Shoe Dog in some capacity as evidence. Stop listening. While the eponymous brand did, in fact, help jumpstart Phil Knight and Nike, they have accomplished, so, so much more over the years. Based in Japan, Onitsuka, the company was founded in 1949 by a retired soldier who hoped to reinvigorate the self-esteem of a nation through the power of sport. The brand would go on to make well-known advancements for footwear in a variety of categories, with running and basketball at the forefront of their innovation. Eventually, they began to work on tennis sneakers as the game grew more and more popular. Soon came the GSM (Game, Set Match), a sleek sneaker constructed from leather and suede, and sporting the brand’s iconic crisscrossing stripes. This week, Kith revived the vintage silhouette, offering up the shoe in plain white with accents in a variety of different colors.

The special project between Kith and Onitsuka Tiger, which paints the GSM in a variety of colorways, is now available directly from Kith’s website and all retail locations. The vintage tennis sneaker carries a retail price of just $90 and is available with color accents in green, red, blue, and black.
